First Baptist Church Sun City, AZ began as a ministry of First Southern Baptist Church in Phoenix AZ as a bible study in the home of Wheeler Thompson on March 16, 1966. It was called "The Sun City Southern Baptist Mission". 

 

The mission was constituted as the "First Baptist Church of Sun City" on April 30, 1972.  It was the first church in the Southern Baptist Convention as a ministry devoted entirely to a retirement community.

Missions and evangelism have been an integral part of this church from the very beginning. This church has been a part of starting 21 churches in the greater Phoenix area.
